Insurance

We handle your insurance end to end: work out what you need, compare offers across several insurers, put the chosen cover in place, and look after the policy over time — including when you have to claim.

Get in touch

We work with a number of insurers, which lets us compare cover, sums insured, excesses and exclusions before recommending anything. We are not selling one brand — we are looking for what fits your situation.

The starting point is always a free review of what you already hold. Often the answer is to adjust what exists rather than buy more.

  • Life and buildings cover for your mortgage

Mortgage life cover and multirriscos are the two a Portuguese lender requires. They are also where most is saved, because most people take whatever the bank offers without comparing.

  • For you, your home and your family

Health, personal accident, liability, contents, pets, travel, savings and pension plans. We set sums insured and cover to match your actual situation.

  • For your vehicles

Motor, motorcycle and fleet cover, with or without own-damage. We compare excesses, breakdown assistance and replacement vehicles, not just the annual premium.

  • For your business

Employer liability, commercial buildings and contents, public liability, staff health cover, short-let property and condominium policies. Legal obligations handled and deadlines met.

  • Looked after once it is signed

A policy is not finished on the day it is signed. We review sums insured, adjust cover as your circumstances change, and act for you when a claim has to be made.

  • At no cost to you

The review and the comparison cost you nothing. We are paid by the insurer the policy is placed with.

FAQ

The questions we are asked most often.

Can I change the life cover on my Portuguese mortgage?

Yes. You are not obliged to take the policy from the bank that granted the loan. Portuguese law prohibits compulsory tied selling, provided the alternative meets the cover the credit agreement requires. One thing to watch: if the bank tied a spread discount to holding its policies, that discount may end — we work that calculation through with you first.

What is the difference between life cover and multirriscos?

Life cover insures the person: on death or disability it settles the balance owed to the bank. Multirriscos insures the building — fire, natural events, water damage. They are different things and lenders generally require both.

Does the bank's buildings policy cover the contents?

Usually not. The policy tied to a mortgage typically covers rebuilding the property, not what is inside it. Furniture, appliances and personal equipment need contents cover, arranged separately and cheap relative to what it protects.

I am a non-resident. Does that change anything?

It can. Some insurers price differently or restrict cover where the policyholder does not live in Portugal, and health cover in particular varies a great deal. Worth raising early rather than at the end.

What is a franquia (excess)?

The part of any claim you carry yourself. Lower premiums almost always mean higher excesses, which is why comparing on price alone is misleading.

What if I need to claim?

Talk to us. We help submit the claim, gather the documentation and follow it through with the insurer until it is settled.
